If he likes the electronics. This is their chart for prototypes and to prove them before assembling it to horando time and money.

Nice sized bredboard for beginners. Big enough to stretch out and even comes with a bunch of pre-shaped wires. The poll pieces seem a little flimsy but so far have proven to be just fine.
