5 out of 5 stars Buy this one - avoid cheaper switching power supplies   September 29, 2007

Works as described. Great price. Be careful to avoid cheaper switching power supplies as they may overheat or burn out electronic devices. This unit is not a switching PS. You can get test leads in a variety of configurations that fit this unit from Radio Shack - inexpensive.

5 out of 5 stars Please don't ban this, gov't!!   November 16, 2006

This unit is great for manufacturing a strong oxidizing agent used in fireworks called potassium perchlorate. It can also be used for making potassium chlorate, which can be used for both fireworks and high explosives.

Hopefully the government doesn't ban these little units because of their ability to make these substances. It's amazing what this little unit can do when you pass its pretty little current through a super saturated solution of common table salt (its oxidizer city, baby!).

I give this unit five stars because it does exactly what it was advertised to do and I didn't have to do any modifications to this unit to get set up and make these chemicals.

Thank you Mastech!

4 out of 5 stars OK power supply but controls are twitchy and no voltage sense   May 4, 2009

The controls are a bit difficult to adjust finely (despite the 'fine' adjustment pots) and there's some threshold where internally a relay clicks on/off which changes the ranges (adjustment is not smooth).

There is no voltage sense line, the green connector is an additional ground.

If the current draw doesn't vary much regulation works fine and there's not much ripple or other noise on the output.

The built in meters are adequate but low-res enough to want to use a good external meter if you are measuring milliamps or millivolts.

All in all a fairly low end supply but adequate if you understand the limitations. Good value for the price.
