Weve all been there, sitting on the couch or easy chair and the TV doesnt seem to respond to your remote control. First you smack it, then you hold it in the air and aim it closer to the TV... but the channel still wont change! At that point theres three options: get up and change the channel (ha, that will never happen), change the batteries and see if that works, or take another Xanax! Before you go through all that, give yourself a treat and check the remote with this handy IR tester. Simply point your IR remote at the board, press a function button, and the 4 LEDs confirm proper IR receive! Runs on a standard 9V battery (not included). Veasures 2.2 x 1.2 x 1.3. From elleman. (I guess I forgot about option #4, throw the remote at the wall!)

Easy to build and it works August 28, 2010

The Vellemann IR Remote Control Checker is an easy-to-build kit for anyone with basic electronic soldering skills and some kit experience. It does work, but you must have the remote you are testing very close to the IR photo diode and exactly lined up with the center of the diode. If alignment is a little off, the indicator LEDs won't flash. Try a few times before you decide the remote or its batteries are not working.
